Tackling single-use plastics with our partner, Hydroplast

We're a world hooked on convenient yet catastrophic single-use plastic. Today, we produce about 300 million tonnes of plastic waste every year. That’s nearly equivalent to the weight of the entire human population.1

Around the world, one million plastic drinking bottles are purchased every minute, while up to 5 trillion single-use plastic bags are used worldwide every year.2 According to The Center for Biological Diversity, plastic bags are used on average for 12 minutes.3 Its short life span stems from a vicious cycle of overproduction and overconsumption which results in heaps of plastic that end up in our oceans, harming our wildlife, polluting our water, and even affecting us directly through seafood on our plates.

Only 9% of all plastic waste ever produced has been recycled. According to the UN, approximately 12% of plastic waste has been incinerated and an astounding 79% has accumulated in landfills, dumps or the natural environment.4 This shocking reality has driven a positive step with a growing ‘zero waste’ movement but we still have a long way to go.

In our ongoing efforts to reduce pollution created by the fashion industry, we are pleased to announce our partnership with Hydroplast, creators of an environmentally friendly, water-soluble packaging for our garments.

Conventional plastic bags are not biodegradable and break down into micro plastics that are harmful to the environment and wildlife. Hydroplast bags are 100% safe for humans, animals and the environment. Marine-safe, compostable, and water-soluble, you can dispose of your Hydroplast bag in several ways including in the compost, recycling, or simply in the trash. But best of all you can dispose instantly by placing it in hot water!

Hydroplast bags are an EN13432 certified product which means it has been tested by European standards to ensure biodegradation. Furthermore, any waste materials that are created during the manufacturing process of Hydroplast bags are collected and reprocessed to ensure that wastage is drastically reduced.

We’re thrilled to be partnering with the clever folks at Hydroplast who have provided us with these bags, so next time, when you shop with us, your garments are protected on their transit to you. Tackling single-use plastics, together!
